Today, the CEO of Dreams for Change let me know she had some time available for an interview this week. She’s incredibly busy, and I had been waiting weeks for this opportunity. It wasn’t until I decided to leave my last position that things finally started to fall into place.

While running on the treadmill at the gym, I briefly looked up and noticed a commercial on the screen. It showed a bright red background with white letters that said “Save the Children.” Instantly, chills ran down my spine, and I knew this was another sign from the Lord. I was filled with joy! As if that wasn’t enough, I glanced down and saw the letters “SP”, which my phone covered the rest of the word. When I moved it, I saw the word was “Spirit.” I was so excited that I went home after my run and wrote about the experience in my journal. I accepted that my mission was to help children.

Meeting with the CEO of ‘Dreams for Change,’ a nonprofit in SD helping the homeless. During my interview, the final question I asked was about the current challenges her son is facing. She shared that he struggles with reading. This prompted me to Google about literacy in California, and I was amazed by the insights I discovered.

After my group Bible study one of the women in our class asked me about what I was doing. I explained a bit to her, and she mentioned that she had a degree in child development, specifically in children’s literacy. I was so happy! I had been praying for some connections to get things going.

I met with a woman in my church who ended up connecting me to a professor at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Hawaii. She has her Ph.D in Curriculum & Instruction in Language & Literacy. This started opening the doors up in the right direction.
I hired Legal Zoom to do the legal filings for me. I also took this time to write out a strategic plan.
